Scorta Newsletter-December 9, 2011 President Bob Karlovetz
called the meeting to order at noon. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by the dinner prayer. Members
of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fremont served the luncheon. Karolvetz thanked the greeters and Jeanette
Gleba for the table decorations. Bob read two thank-you notes from Solomon Lutheran Church and
Fremont City Schools regarding the dictionaries, thesauruses, and reference books on how to utilize both the dictionaries
and thesauruses that SCORTA donated to them. Members of the Fremont Ross High School Glee
Club class put on a holiday program filled with holiday songs under the direction of Pam Meggitt. Wendy Brown accompanied
the students on the piano. Pres. Karlovetz explained to those in attendance the necessity for
realigning the executive committee. Many members of the executive committee have multiple jobs for which they are responsible.
Since no one has stepped up to the plate to serve as President, John Paulson stated that he would serve as president if Walt
Lamson would be responsible for both Information/Protective Services as well as Legislative matters. It was also mentioned
that help with the punch at luncheons is still needed. If Carol Klohn comes to luncheons, she will take care of the
punch. If she is unable to come, there will be no punch served before we eat lunch. Elaine Roush
has agreed to keep track of our membership's community service hours. At that point, John
Paulson was installed as president of SCORTA. Edna Hanson took the floor at that time to thank outgoing president Bob
Karlovetz for all his efforts and service to our organization. The minutes of the Nov. 4th Executive Committee
meeting were read. Jeanette Gleba moved the minutes be approved. Marcia Humberger seconded the motion. Motion
passed. Ellen Honsperger presented the treasurer's report and it was filed for audit.
Honsperger also told those present that ORTA and SCORTA dues for 2012 are now due. She also gave an update on our
Kroger card program. Ellen has an info sheet available to anyone who would like to sign up for this program. Walt Lamson reported that Dave Gynn from ORTA will be present at our March, 2012 luncheon to discuss
how important ORTA is to all SCORTA members and how this group protects the benefits we all enjoy. New
SCORTA members were introduced at the luncheon. They included: Eileen Reinhard, Dee Grabel, and
Shirley Kiser. Becky Lauer reported that 1056 dictionaries, 48 thesauruses and 48
reference manuals were delivered to all elementary schools in Sandusky County. Community Service
chairperson, Eilene Roush updated those present about keeping track of volunteer hours throughout the calendar year.
She mentioned that prep time and travel time for all volunteer hours should be included. Dick
Dundore reported that a trip to the Cleveland Orchestra and Art Museum is being planned for Friday, May 18th. A bus
will collect passengers from Fremont, Clyde and Bellevue. Those going will arrive in Cleveland at 9:30 AM. A pre-concert
lecture will begin at 10, followed by the concert at 11. Upper balcony seats run $56, while lower area seats
fun $61. Lunch will follow the concert on your own. The afternoon will be spent touring the Art Museum.
Friends are welcome.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned, motion made by Dick Dundore and seconded by Jon Brough.
Respectively submitted, Madeline Doble

Sandusky County Retired Teachers Executive Board Meeting-Minutes Nov 4, 2011
President Bob Karlovetz called the meeting to order at 1:00
PM . There was much discussion relating to who would take over as president of SCORTA. No one has stepped up to
say that they would be willing to serve as president of our group. John Paulson has agreed to take over as leader of
our group. In turn, Walt Lamson agreed to remain as our Protective Services person. Additionally, he agreed to
oversee John Paulson's Legislative area. All other board members will continue in their present positions.
Should Carol Klohn resign her position as hospitality chair or not be able to provide refreshments at any one of our luncheons,
punch will be eliminated.
Bob informed those present that ORTA's Spring Conference will be in Findlay.
He mentioned that Joyce Doust has retired. She has been replaced by Carol Wolf. Minutes of the September
9, 2011 luncheon were accepted with two corrections. The minutes should read that it was Diane Wise, not Darlene Wise,
who attended the September luncheon. Elaine Rousch spells her name Roush.
Ellen Honsperger presented the
treasurer's report as of October 31, 2011. The report was filed for audit.
Don Stull, a Terra Community
College representative, will be present at our March luncheon to make a power point presentation. The board is also
looking into having an ORTA representative attend the March luncheon to discuss the benefits of all SCORTA members being members
of ORTA. As our March luncheons usually have low attendance, we may wait until the June luncheon to have a speaker relating
to this subject. Walt Lamson may discuss this at our December luncheonl
Jeanette Gleba reported that
the December meeting will be the last luncheon where table decorations and place setting favors will be placed on tables.
The two churches we hold our luncheons at provide centerpieces, eliminating the need for Jeanette to come up with ideas for
our luncheons.
Becky Lauer gave an update on our dictionary project. The following have been delivered to
her home: 1046 dictionaries, 46 thesauruses, and 46 "How to Use Dictionary and Thesaurus' Books".
SCORTA members will meet at Becky's home on November 28 at 1:00PM to place stickers on the inside covers of all the books
listing the sponsors who paid for the books. They will also box up the books for each elementary school for delivery.
Walt Lamson encouraged board members to continue spreading the word for voters to vote in November. It
is imperative for voters to vote no on Issue 2. Bob mentioned that regardless of how the vote turns out regarding this
issue, Ohio's current governor has stated that one way or the other, elements of this important issue will be brought
in the back door one way or another.
Blanche McCormick reported that 32 letters have been sent out to recently
retired teachers encouraging them to join SCORTA. Of those 32, only one has been returned. Phone calls and messages
left have not been returned.
Santa Claus will attend our December luncheon to hand out candy canes.
Ellen
Honsperger gave an update on our Kroger card program. She encourages those who haven't joined to do so. Revenue
from this program ensures that we can continue receiving funds for the scholarships we award each June.
Edna Hansen
will be asked to install officers for the coming year at the December luncheon.
There being no further business,
the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Madeline R. Doble Secretary
